The main clubhouse ballroom was packed full of the holiday spirit last month, with the Garden Club’s annual Holiday Luncheon, “Toyland Holiday Luncheon Celebrating Children.”

The colorful room decorations and table centerpieces were splendid, and added an extra air of festivity to the event.

Each guest brought at least one new, unwrapped toy as a donation to Carol’s Kitchen, and the gifts for the charity covered 6 long tables set up at the back of the room.

“Our committees had a lot of fun with all the decorations,” said Sharon Mills, co-chair of the event with Terry Anderson. Committee members included Betty Beidelman, Doreen Bryant, June Bullock, Carolyn Gagnon, Marla Henrich, Karen Hoferer, Johnnie Phillips, Martha Pruchit, Bernice Schoen, and Vera Thaxton. The decorating committee included Marilyn Crowell, Susan Fitzpatrick, Renie Harrison, Zoe Kayseri, Raelene McMahon, Sharon Reinmuth, Susie Roberts, and Vera Thaxton.

President Mary Ruygrok introduced Alexandra Tompkins and Buddy Neale, representing Carol’s Kitchen. They explained that the charity’s Christmas mission is to provide toys to all children in need. Tompkins and Neale, along with Garden Club member Renie Harrison, accepted the toys, along with cash donations of $172.

“They’ll use the money to purchase hats and gloves for the children,” said Mills.

Club members, committee members, and the club’s board of directors donated 28 gift cards for local restaurants and businesses. The cards were given out as door prizes throughout the luncheon.

Entertainment was provided by the ever-popular trio, Audacity, consisting of Nancy Ford, Sheila James, and Gina Harlan.
