Beaumont High School carried its playoff march to square off against visiting Duarte High School in a Wednesday in a Southern Section Division 6 quarterfinals match.

Duarte’s 1-2 hitting combination of Nalani Young and Emily Lopez, have accounted for most of the squad’s attack. Dionne Zhao has racked up 126 service aces through the Lady Falcons’ 39 matches, many of which were tournament titles.

Beaumont, 17-5, took second in the Mountain Pass League.

Kylie Coon is the Lady Cougars’ top attacker, though the team’s setting combinations have looked for Anjola Thomas, Miranda Gates and Sabrina Garces for put-aways.

Coon and Tori Echevarria tops Beaumont defenders in stopping opposing attacks.

Three-game sweeps over Moreno Valley and Apple Valley Granite Hills high schools lifted the Lady Cougars into the third round of playoffs. Beaumont reached the second round in last year’s Division 6 playoffs before losing to eventual champion Loma Linda Academy.

Duarte reached the 2014 Division 4A championship, losing to Edwards Air Force Base.

Duarte opened post-season play with wins over Alhambra Mark Keppel and Panorama City St. Genevieve.
