Dear editor,

Recently, I contacted the Beaumont Water Department to inquire on the "Be Water Wise" Program advertised by the State of California to assist with the seriousness of water conservation. It was stated the Beaumont Water Department is not participating in this program. The Beaumont Water Department would need to apply for a grant to provide incentives to its residents who are willing to install drought resistant landscapes. Apparently, this is not a priority for the Beaumont Water Department. Unclear how we will be able to sustain water services to current residents, new housing developments and warehouses in Beaumont. It is extremely disheartening, since we moved to an HOA to ensure properties were maintained and landscapes did not present a fire hazard. I presume our Beaumont elected officials care about the funding the city receives from our property taxes, mello roos and new developments but are unable to assist its residents with water conservation. The "Be Water Wise" Program should be available to all California residents.
