Marcelino A. Palacios, 89, passed away on July 4, 2018 at home on the Morongo Indian Reservation. Marcelino was born on July 17, 1928 in Banning. He was a lifelong resident of Banning and graduated from Banning High School.
Marcelino had been married to Roselee Palacios for 42 years. He was a landscaper and drove trucks and heavy equipment. He could repair anything. He was an Army corporal and received a Purple Heart. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Indian Mission.
Among his greatest achievements was being “number 1 dad and grandpa (Ta-ta).” He was a kind man. He had many friends, helped others and loved his dog, Penny.
He is preceded in death by his father Sylvestre Palacios; mother Ysabel Palacios; sons Ernest Palacios and Anthony Trujillo; and granddaughter Tammy Steckstor.
He is survived by his wife Roselee Palacios of the Morongo Indian Reservation; daughters Shawna Mongori of the Morongo Indian Reservation, Yvonne Diaz of Grand Terrace and Sally Steckstor of Las Vegas; sons Anthony Martin of the Morongo Indian Reservation, Rudy Palacios and Michael Palacios both of Banning; sisters Angie Carrillo of Fresno and Andrea Gonzales of Banning; brother John Palacios and Banning; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; multiple nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 13, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Morongo Community Center. Rosary will follow at 7 p.m.
Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 14 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Indian Mission. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
