On Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, around 10:30 p.m., officers from the Banning Police Department were dispatched to a 9-1-1 hung-up call in the 300 block of East Ramsey Street in Banning.

Once officers arrived in the area, they discovered two men who appeared to be suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Both victims were transported by paramedics to a local hospital.

One victim, identified by members of the community as Banning High School alumnus Alex Marcotte, succumbed to his injuries while at the hospital.

The second victim was admitted and is considered to be in critical condition.

Banning Police Department detectives were summoned to the scene and assumed the investigation.
