Banning Police

On Thursday, Nov. 15, around noon, Banning Police Department patrol personnel were dispatched to an apparent Attempt Homicide. The reporting party and victim

stated they were at the Sizzler Restaurant located in the 1700 block of West Ramsey Street in Banning.

Once officers arrived on scene, they located the victim inside the Sizzler Restaurant. Officer

learned the Assault with a Deadly Weapon did not occur at the location. The victim, who police have not identified, was approached by a vehicle in the 300 block of Roberge Street. The victim told officers that the vehicle occupied by two Hispanic male adults. Once the victim was approached by the vehicle, one of the occupants of the vehicle produced a handgun and opened fire on the victim, but missed. The victim, in fear for their life, took off running to Sizzler where they called 9-1-1.

Officers were able to located evidence of a shooting in the 300 block of Roberge Street and were able to interview witnesses to the shooting. Officers were able to get a description of the suspects and vehicle they were driving in.

After further investigation, one of the suspects in the vehicle was positively identified as Michael Mariscal, a 19 year old resident of Banning.

Around 1 p.m. detectives from the Banning Police Department and patrol personnel

located the suspect vehicle, which was occupied in the 400 block of Grove Street in Banning.

Detectives were able to positively identify Mariscal in the driver seat of the vehicle and

a second Hispanic male adult was seated in the passenger seat. Once an officer attempted to make contact with the vehicle, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed and a vehicle pursuit ensued.

After a short vehicle pursuit, the vehicle crashed in the 2200 block of West Wilson Street.

The passenger of the vehicle, who was identified as Jimmy Favela, a 35 year-old resident of Banning, exited the vehicle after the crash and took off running before being apprehended by officers a short time later.

Mariscal, who was driving, was arrested at the crash scene without incident.

Mariscal was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun. During a search of the suspects’ vehicle, an additional loaded handgun was located. No injury occurred to law enforcement, suspects, or the public during this incident.

Mariscal and Favela were arrested for attempt homicide and gun possession charges. Mariscal was also charged with felony evading.

Mariscal and Favela were booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning. .

On Tuesday, Nov. 6 shortly before 7 a.m. hours, Banning Police Department patrol personnel were dispatched to a suspicious circumstances call at San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital located at 600 N. Highland Springs Ave. in Banning.
