On June 14 at approximately 1:20 a.m., a 16-year-old boy from Banning was driving a 2016 Polaris side-by-side utility task vehicle southbound on Potrero Road.
In the right front seat was another 16-year-old boy from Cabazon.
Neither of the boys were wearing helmets or seatbelts.
The driver of the UTV attempted to make a turn onto Morongo Road but was traveling too fast.
The UTV overturned on the pavement.
The unrestrained passenger was ejected onto the roadway and pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics; the driver of the Polaris was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center by AMR with non-life threatening injuries.
Alcohol and drugs have been ruled out as contributing factors in determining the cause of this collision.
