On June 14 at approximately 1:20 a.m., a 16-year-old boy from Banning was driving a 2016 Polaris side-by-side utility task vehicle southbound on Potrero Road.

In the right front seat was another 16-year-old boy from Cabazon.

Neither of the boys were wearing helmets or seatbelts.

The driver of the UTV attempted to make a turn onto Morongo Road but was traveling too fast.

The UTV overturned on the pavement.

The unrestrained passenger was ejected onto the roadway and pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics; the driver of the Polaris was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center by AMR with non-life threatening injuries.

Alcohol and drugs have been ruled out as contributing factors in determining the cause of this collision.

Banning Police Department seek help in finding the person responsible for a hit and run in front of the Banning Post Office near the corner of Alessandro Road and Williams Street around 4:30 p.m. today.

A truck fire caused a traffic shutdown on the eastbound lanes of the I-10 freeway near Cherry Valley Boulevard (and, vicariously, slowing the opposite traffic slowing to see the activity on the westbound) according to Officer Edward Nunez of the California Highway Patrol.

On Tuesday, Nov. 6 shortly before 7 a.m. hours, Banning Police Department patrol personnel were dispatched to a suspicious circumstances call at San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital located at 600 N. Highland Springs Ave. in Banning.

Hoffer Elementary School was put on lockdown for awhile Thursday afternoon after Banning Police Department received "multiple" calls of a possible shooting next door at the adjacent Roosevelt Williams Park shortly after 1 p.m.
