Laura May Stewart was the daughter of Banning pioneer Renzor Perry Stewart and his wife Mary. Renzor Perry Stewart came to Banning in 1878 and grew grain and raised hogs in the Banning Bench.

Laura May Stewart ran the farm after her father’s death and amassed a fortune, according to YouTube video linked to the foundation’s Web site.

“She left behind the Laura May Stewart Trust,” the video says, “a fund dedicated to assist, encourage and promote the well-being of the inhabitants of the cities of Banning and Beaumont.”
