The 10th annual Lavender Festival will fill the air in Cherry Valley with a sweet smell over the weekends of June 14-15 and June 21-22.
The festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily on both weekends at Highland Springs Resort, 10600 Highland Springs Ave.
Horse-wagon tours will be offered for $5 adults, $3 seniors and students. Children five and younger are free.
The tours will go around the property and guests can see the 1,000 year-old Oak tree and lavender fields.
There also will be a distillation demo at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. daily.
Guests will learn how lavender essential oil is made and there will be talk of the health benefits of lavender and how to apply them.
Craft sessions will include learning how to make lavender wands and mini arrangements.
The Organic Marketplace will feature the 123 Farm’s lavender products.
Workshops will be held each weekend, at noon and 1 p.m. On Saturday, June 14, chef Sandra Garrett presents “Cooking with Lavender.” Dr. Nadia Mistry, a naturopathic doctor, will talk about “The Natural Menopause.”
On Sunday, June 15, Jean Weiss, of the University of California, will talk about Edible Flowers.
Botanist Robin Kobaly will talk about Southwest Native Plants.
On Saturday, June 21, chef John Shrader will talk about Cooking with Lavender. Clark’s Nutrition’s Starky Sowers will talk about Herbs for Sleep and Energy.
On Sunday, June 22, master gardener Carol Hambre will talk about Wildlife Habitats. Botanist Robin Kobaly will talk about Native Plants.
If you’re in the mood for music, there will be plenty of entertainment.
Vocalist and guitarist Tony Suraci will perform from 1 to 2:30 p.m. June 14. A String Quartet will perform from 3 to 4 p.m.
Cellist Ian Maksin will perform from 1 to 2 p.m. June 15 and June 21. Pianist Tatsuya will perform from 3 to 4 p.m.
The Celtic Spring Band will perform from 3 to 4 p.m. on June 21 and from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on June 22.
The Lavender Festival menu will include a variety of meals including meatball sliders, garbanzo burgers, Grand Oak sausage, Southwestern quinoas bowl, lavender beef brisket and roasted honey BBQ chicken.
Desserts will include lavender crumb pastry, lavender cheesecake, peach crisp and lavender honey ice cream.
