Nestlé Waters North America celebrated its annual company-wide Better Lives Food Drive to help those living in food-insecure households on July 3.
Nestlé associates across the country, including those from Cabazon, joined the fight against hunger by participating in a food drive that ran from June 28 through the beginning of July.
The Better Lives Food Drive provides an opportunity for all employees to get involved and help make a difference in our communities.
The highest demand for food assistance is during the summer months, when access to healthy meals for families who rely on school meal programs is critical.
There are 41 million people who struggle with hunger in the United States, including nearly 13 million children.
When school is not in session, the summer months become especially challenging. During the school year, children consume up to 50 percent of their total daily calories at school, which means healthy meals provided by local food banks are vital for families during these months when they lose the school meal option.
“Nestlé Waters North America is passionate about supporting issues that matter in the communities where we work and live — and the food crisis in the U.S. is one issue that we tackle each year,” said Cabazon Factory Manager Gary Rice. “We’re privileged to be a part of the communities where our offices, plants, and spring sources are located, and we take helping our neighbors seriously.”
For this drive the Cabazon team partnered with the FIND Food Bank, based in Indio, a regional food bank serving eastern Riverside and southern San Bernardino counties in Southern California.
The organization distributes more than 10 million pounds of food assistance annually to an average of 85,000 individuals per month.
Nestlé’s purpose is to enhance the quality of life and contribute to a healthier future for individual and families, our communities, and the planet.
The Better Lives Food Drive is part of our mission to help develop thriving and resilient communities where we live and work.
Since 2014, Nestlé Waters North America has collected more than 146,000 pounds of food, providing nearly 124,000 meals to those in need.
In 2017 alone, associates collected nearly 53,000 pounds of food.
