Chicago artist Joe A. Oakes is excited to announce his new painting classes for adults in Banning.

“Everyone needs a creative outlet” said Oakes, “now they have a place to learn how to get started in painting.”

Oakes presents important elements of art in his classes. There is structure but the material is presented in a light, fun environment. Students of all skill levels are welcome and although the Artist teaches in acrylic paint, oil and pastels are also welcome.

It doesn’t matter if you’re starting a new painting or struggling with your current piece, Oakes is there to help. Composition, color palette, mixing colors, value are all covered in these four week classes.

“Everyone will leave with valuable information they can practice at home or continue on with in more classes,” said Oakes. “And each student will leave with at least one finished painting.”

Classes will be held at the Banning Community Center on four consecutive Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 8 p.m. starting on Feb. 6. Please call the center at (951) 922-3253 to register. Joe also holds classes at the Scherer Community Center in Yucaipa, the Riverside Art Museum and Catalyst at Art Supply Warehouse in Westminster.

Oakes is originally from Chicago, was a long-time resident of La Quinta but now resides in the pass area. He is a full-time working artist and has been teaching classes and workshops for nearly ten years. He has won numerous awards and his work has been exhibited throughout the United States. It is currently on display at Brandon Gallery in Fallbrook.
