More than 100 family members, friends, and neighbors crowded into the South Clubhouse last week to celebrate Larry Liebers’ 90th birthday.
Guests came from as far away as Tennessee and New York, and warmly greeted others from San Diego and the San Fernando Valley, as a lovely slide show of Larry’s life flashed on a screen in the background.
Posters crammed with photos of Larry’s life were spread around the room.
Larry was a longtime member of the Drama Club, participating in many plays over the years.
He also was a valued member of the Yiddish Culture Club and the Friendship Club, writing articles about upcoming productions of the latter for monthly issues of Lifestyles.
Diane Stone, coordinator of the event, read out loud written messages about Larry, and guests shared a microphone to tell stories about him.
Thomas’ Catering provided a fried chicken dinner for all, and a delicious individualized cake prepared by Sun Lakes’ famous Bob the Baker, was the dessert. Surprise entertainment by three lovely belly dancers delighted the participants, especially the men whose laps they sat on!
