Richard and Stefanie Catena celebrated their upcoming 65th wedding anniversary with family and friends on Nov. 6.

The 18-year residents of Sun Lakes were married on Dec. 4, 1951 in Hanau, Germany. Eighty-five guests that included their daughter, three sons, nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, along with a host of friends, enjoyed the celebratory evening in the Main Ballroom for dinner, dancing, and a performance by the International Dancers of Sun Lakes.

Richard met Stefanie in Vienna, Austria in 1945 during World War II. He was discharged from the Army in 1946 and later re-enlisted and returned to Germany in 1947 to continue his friendship and eventual courtship with the Austrian girl he couldn’t forget.

Thirty-four members of the Catena family attended the anniversary celebration and is a testament to the love that began more than six decades ago. Congratulations Richard and Stefanie on your Sapphire Anniversary.
